Donna Hill
Director & Registered Nurse
Kia ora, I’m Donna, a Registered Nurse and the founder of Awhina Health Care. I have many years of experience in nursing and aged care, including management and clinical leadership at Ōhope Beach Care.
Through my work, I’ve seen how important it is for families to have both flexibility and trust in the care they receive. I created Awhina Health Care to give whānau the freedom to choose the support worker who feels right for their loved one, while we take care of the payroll, administration, and professional oversight.
As a Registered Nurse, I make sure our services meet professional standards and that caregivers are supported with training and care plan guidance. Most importantly, I believe that care should always be grounded in kindness, respect, and dignity.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren, travelling, and exploring New Zealand in my motorhome. I also love restoring furniture and giving new life to old treasures — a bit like how I see care: honouring what’s already there while adding comfort and support.
Ann Bennett
Registered Nurse
Kia ora, I’m Ann, a Registered Nurse proud to be part of Awhina Health Care alongside Donna. I’ve worked in both community and aged care nursing, including time at Ōhope Beach Care, and over the years I’ve developed a real passion for supporting people and their families to feel safe and cared for at home.
I specialise in dementia care and InterRAI assessments, and I love being able to guide families through these areas with patience and understanding. At Awhina, I help create care plans that are not only safe and practical, but also shaped around what really matters to each whānau. Supporting our caregivers is another part of my role that I treasure — making sure they feel confident and valued so they can give the very best care.
For me, the most rewarding part of nursing is helping people stay in their own homes, with dignity, comfort, and independence. Families often tell me how much difference it makes to have the right support, and it’s a privilege to be part of that journey.
Outside of work, I enjoy singing and karaoke, sketching, and reading. I also love the peaceful surroundings of Ōhope Beach and Whakatāne’s beautiful scenery, which always keep me grounded and inspired.
